Who Are We

Stephen and Alexandra Tewell are dedicated church planters with a heart set on transforming Fells Point, Baltimore. Born and raised in Baltimore, Stephen’s connection to the city runs deep, shaping his passion for its people and their spiritual well-being. Stephen’s path to church planting began during his time at Pensacola Christian College. Witnessing the widespread decline of churches throughout America, he felt a deep stirring to be a part of the solution. Despite encountering obstacles along the way, Stephen’s resolve only grew, propelling him to heed the call to establish churches in his community. During his time at First Anna Church and Rosedale Baptist Church, Stephen refined his abilities and deepened his understanding of effective church leadership. Yet, Stephen’s purpose became clear during a temporary assignment at a church in Fells Point. Observing the urgent need for the Gospel in this vibrant yet underserved community, Stephen recognized his calling.

Why Fells Point?

Fells Point and Upper Fells Point in Southeast Baltimore are renowned for their rich history and cultural diversity. Established in 1763, Fells Point boasts over 250 years of heritage, with 161 buildings listed on the National Historic Register. Its cobblestone streets and centuries-old architecture, ranging from wooden-framed rows to modern townhomes, create a timeless charm. Amidst this backdrop, a vibrant array of shops and restaurants preserves the essence of its past.

Just north, Upper Fells Point emerged in the mid-1800s as a melting pot of immigrant communities. Initially settled by German and Irish dockworkers, it later welcomed waves of Scandinavian, Italian, Polish, Czech, Greek, and Lithuanian immigrants. Today, Upper Fells Point continues to evolve, attracting newcomers and adding to its cultural diversity and vibrancy.

Yet, amidst this rich tapestry lies a profound opportunity for outreach. With Catholic and Orthodox churches being the predominant religious institutions in the community, a significant portion of the population remains unreached by the grace of the Gospel. With nearly 16,000 residents in the zip code alone, there is a calling for churches to extend their reach into the heart of this community, sharing the transformative message of the Gospel.

It is our privilege, as stewards of the message of Jesus, to step boldly into these neighborhoods we cherish, carrying the light of the Gospel. Through our presence and ministry, we seek to bridge divides, build connections, and offer solace to those seeking meaning and belonging. Together, let us embrace the call to serve, weaving a new chapter of hope and redemption that only Jesus offers in the vibrant tapestry of Fells Point and Upper Fells Point.
